 Introduction to the Workshop on:

How to plan the project management as well to proactively creating more value from the PM effort.

Facilitated by Morten Fangel, Fangel Consulting, Denmark

Thursday 09 January 2020 at 13:00 till 17:00 at the Engineer’s House

The purpose of the Workshop is to promote proactivity in the way you are performing project management – compared with reactively handling challenges when they pops up.

A way to change the balance between reactive and proactive project management is to create awareness about, that you as project manager need to be competent in both:

  • to perform the project management activities – and
  • to lead the project management processes.

Most classic books on project management and company in-house guidelines have been focusing on how to perform by applying methods and tools. The Workshop intent to ad a level of more conscious leading the project management, the purpose of which is to promote:

that relevant PM takes are handled and project management (PM) activities take place,

  • that the PM effort is focused on where it creates most value for the project progress,
  • that the PM techniques from the company tool box are scaled for the type of project – and
  • that relevant participants and parties are involved also in the project management activities.

The instrument for better leading the project management is at the workshop to present and practice new methods for periodically planning and evaluating the PM in itself. Each participant will during the workshop have the opportunity in small groups to apply the methods on one selected project pr. person.

After the Workshop, each participant is encouraged to document and further refine the plan for the coming weeks of managing own project.

As background literature, we apply the book Proactive Project Management by Morten Fangel.  For presentation of the book see www.fangel.dk . When registering for the workshop, you indicate whether you also want a copy of the book – either in English or Danish.

In brief, the outcomeof participating in the Workshop will be:

  • Understand the difference between planning the project and planning the project management.
  • Insight in methodologies which support the planning and evaluation of the PM effort itself.
  • Practical guidelines which promote that you periodically apply such a “helicopter perspective”.
  • Dialog with others when planning the up-coming management of one project per participant.
